True North
Here, amidst laughter and meaningful conversations, young hearts find a place to belong and grow. Through engaging activities, from spirited discussions to adventurous outings, we foster friendships that deepen faith and inspire service. Guided by values of compassion and inclusivity, we empower our youth to navigate life's challenges with resilience and hope. Together, we strive to create a sanctuary where every young person feels valued, understood, and equipped to shine brightly in the world.
About True North
True North is our church’s energy-packed youth ministry and reaches out to all youths from Grade 8s to Matrics. In the third term after HBC, a highlight for our young people to serve we invite the grade 7 to join us and say farewell to our matrics who transition into the next phase of their lives.
True North is centred on the foundation of the Word of God, we believe that we are called to teach our youth godly morals, values and the importance of making Jesus the centre of their lives. True North is the place for young people to build Godly relationships and grow steadfast in their relationship with Jesus.
What a Friday at True North normally looks like
Our energetic sessions start with none other than some good quality relationship building.
We encourage teens to come early for this time, for them to make new friends and build Godly friendships in a fun and engaging way.
We officially start our time together at 6:30 pm where there are games, laughter, Worship, and maybe a testimony or two. We tailor the evening program around the teaching for the evening.
During the evening we transition to a time of teaching and small group time where our youth can discuss the message or anything that may be on their minds with our amazing team of volunteers who make up the leadership team of True North.
We finish off our time together at 9 pm where we say good bye and start the wait till the next Friday together.
Meet the team
Jordan "Jordz" Theron joined Westway in November 2019, yes just before Covid-19. As our Youth Pastor. Since then he has transitioned into an associate Pastor Role but still maintains oversight of the youth ministry here at WCC. Jordz is grounded by his amazing wife Helen who assists and has become a mother figure to our young people.
Jordz and Helen are assisted by an amazing team of young people who make up the leadership team of True North Youth.
True North F.A.Q.s
Do I have to attend Westway Community Church for my teenager to come to True North? No not at all! Everyone is welcome, and we encourage our youth to invite their friends.
Am I allowed to stay and watch what my teenager is getting up to? Unfortunately we do not encourage parent to stay and watch what their teenager is getting up to. This is to encourage your teen feel free that this is a safe space.
Then how will I know what is going on? We have a Broadcast group that we use to keep parents informed as to what is happening as wellas holding a parents evening so that you can get a glimpse of what happens during our time together. Jordz also has his phone close by should you anything happen.
